Can you start out by telling us whether you are published for the first time or are you multi-published?

Thank you! It’s nice to be here. Superior Vocal health- Herbs for the Voice and Throat is my first published book.

When you were published for the first time, which route did you go – mainstream, small press, vanity published, or self-published and why or how did you choose this route?

I went with a smaller publisher – Vendera Publishing. Jaime Vendera is a veteran of the music book world, having published many books and written six or seven books himself. I felt this was a good match because Jaime knows my audience and was able to help me craft my book in a way that my audience  would want to read it.

How long did it take you to get published once you signed the contract?

I signed the contract about a month before we published. Superior Vocal Health is a researched guidebook for Voice Professionals. I wanted to make sure Vendera was able to properly handle the job.

How did it make you feel to become published for the first time and how did you celebrate?

It felt fabulous, amazing and exciting all at once! My family took me out to dinner and we all celebrated.

This book took me almost three years to finish, accomplished was also a feeling I was experiencing.

What was the first thing you did as far as promotion when you were published for the first time?

The first thing I did was to announce the book on my blog at I then did many posts on our company  facebook page and my personal facebook page. I contacted everyone of my fellow writers and musicians and asked them to post on their facebook pages and blogs as well. Then we started a blog tour with Pump Your Book.

Since you’ve been published, how have you grown as a writer and now a published author?

Absolutely! I have grown due to the fact that I have now had to market my book, do interviews, send out copies for reviews and more. This takes a different mind set than actually writing a book. It requires one to believe in their work and then get behind it.

What has surprised or amazed you about the publishing industry as a whole?

What has surprised me the most is how huge it really is and how challenging it is to get attention drawn to my work.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a published author?

One of the most rewarding things about being a published author has been when I receive emails, facebook messages, phone calls and letters from people saying how much my book has helped them and how much they have learned.

Any final words for writers who dream of being published one day?

Yes. First and foremost, STICK TO IT! Ignore the self doubt and negativity that begin to rise up in your mind when you are writing. Don’t worry about the finished product, simply be in the project each time you sit down to write and you will be done sooner than you think.
