What’s the real secret to radiant beauty? It may come as no surprise that how we look on the outside is directly connected to the beauty deep inside us. What’s more, when we are burdened with the weight of low self-esteem, it’s all-too-visible in our physical appearance. That’s why a truly successful makeover begins by reconnecting with who we are at our very core—long before the swipe of the credit card or snip of the shears.

Now, fashion stylist Lakeysha-Marie Green has written a groundbreaking new guide to developing show-stopping beauty from the inside out. Inspirational and easy to use, The Seeds of Beauty seamlessly joins the key elements of inner beauty with savvy, expert style advice on making the most of your own physical attributes. Addressing both of these all-important parts of true beauty, this gorgeous resource comes together in one illuminating journey that looks as fabulous as it feels. In Part One, “Beauty Within,” you’ll learn to build a foundation of self-love, exploring subjects such as acknowledging your value, developing resilience and finding the courage to move forward. Part Two, “Beauty Reflected,” offers you practical advice on wardrobe fundamentals to bring out your beauty and create a winning style, such as working with your body type, selecting your best colors, choosing a swimsuit, and even building a shoe wardrobe. Unlike other fashion and beauty makeover books on the market, The Seeds of Beauty challenges you to discover just why you are uniquely beautiful on the inside. Once you have embraced your own brand of beauty, you’ll be truly motivated to master the building blocks to accentuate your appearance—and glow with your own exquisite beauty from the inside out. Q: Thank you for this interview, Lakeysha-Marie. Can you tell us what your latest book, The Seeds of Beauty: Defining Your Beauty and Style from the Inside Out, is all about?

A:  The Seeds of Beauty: Defining Your Beauty and Style from the Inside Out connects the elements of inner beauty with expert style advice on building a winning wardrobe. Part one is an intimate journey that takes you through the steps of building confidence, self-esteem and fostering a deep sense of appreciation from within. As you begin to strengthen and discover who you are as a woman, part two reveals how to take these new aspects of your personality and incorporate them into a stunning wardrobe that flatters your body type.

Q: How did you come up with the idea?

A: While working as a fashion stylist, I noticed that some of my clients would look phenomenal after our image consultations, but the light in their eyes never seemed to linger no matter how perfect the look. It was a feeling I recognized from my own past, and I wanted to share what I learned with the hope of inspiring another. During our shopping trips we began to drill down deeper into the topics of self-love and esteem. With each conversation I saw a strength emerging. Whether it was finally learning to say no or finding the courage to let go of the past and move forward.

It was then that I began to see a lasting transformation and I realized that before a make-up or fashion consultation begins, her real beauty needed to start from within. This inspired me to write my first book, The Seeds of Beauty.

Q: What kind of research did you do before and during the writing of your book?

A: I shared the stories I wrote about in the book with others and let them ask me questions about my experiences. The questions helped me to pinpoint which topics to deeply address and what could be chopped down.

Q: If a reader can come away from reading your book with one valuable message, what would that be?

A: If the reader could have only one take-away by the end of the book, I would want for her to be able to look herself in the mirror and feel a sense of love and pride for the woman staring back at her.

Q: Can you give us a short excerpt?

A: Worrying, as you know, hardly gets anyone anywhere.

So I decided to give my mind a rest for a bit.

I was unemployed at the time and had spent the morning anguishing over when my agent would call with a work offer. “Just breathe,” I told myself as I deeply inhaled and then slowly exhaled with a sigh.

To take my mind off things, I decided to accompany my sister and her children while she ran errands. Of course, it’s usually when you try to ignore something that it stealthily creeps back into your thoughts. As my sister perused the aisles, my mind slowly drifted back to the stress of my current predicament.

It was then, as I began to feel a rush of despair, that I felt a small, warm pressure against my palm.

Startled, I looked down to discover that my little niece had taken my hand.

At that moment, as I looked into her adoring eyes, the labors of my mind were forgotten. By threading her tiny fingers through mine, she had silently reminded me that there was more to my existence than the anxiety that weighted my spirit. As emotion welled in my eyes, I smiled in awe of the simplicity of the lesson.

No matter who we are, or what our stage in life, we all benefit from reminders of the value and importance of our existence.

As you read each word of Part I: Beauty Within, may it remind you of your worth and the beauty that your presence brings into our world.~

Q: In your own experience, is it hard to get a nonfiction book published today?  How did you do it?

A: I am an indie author who self-published The Seeds of Beauty. From working with editors to designers it was a great experience that rounded me out. I strongly recommend for writers thinking of self-publishing to do the homework to ensure the best platform is selected. Take a look at the support team, what additional services are offered to push you towards your writing goals? Don’t be afraid to call them up and ask hard questions.

Q: What’s a typical day like for you?

A: I like to have an early start in the morning to take the dog out as well as center myself before jumping into the workday. It’s a good time for me to scroll through my updates and see what’s going on in the world. The day is business as usual with emails, meetings etc… After winding down in the evening I like to take advantage of a little quiet time to jot down ideas for writing.

Q: What’s next for you?

A: More writing! I am currently drafting the outline for my next book, so more to come.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview, Lakeysha-Marie. We wish you much success!

A: Thank you!
